Join the Snowpine Lodge & Utah Mountain Adventures for our first Backcountry Ski Camp.
Guests participating in this program will learn the basics, and/or build on their existing knowledge of backcountry ski touring and avalanche safety.
A friendly, professional UMA guide will lead participants to the best off-piste runs available in the spectacular terrain surrounding Alta, given the current snow and avalanche conditions and the guests’ fitness and skiing ability.
The “Alta Periphery,” accessed from Supreme Chairlift at Alta, is a classic tour we often do. Catherine Lake is a common lunch spot after skiing in Dry Fork and on Sunset Peak. The tour finishes at the base of Alta and may include a visit to Wolverine Peak and Cirque.
The “Bi-Canyon” tours from Alta to Big Cottonwood are others we love to guide. We skin up to the divide north of Alta, and drop into World-Class, north-facing powder terrain in the heads of Silver, Days or Cardiff Fork.
Grizzly Gulch and Twin Lakes Pass is another beautiful area to explore, especially if there is considerable avalanche risk, and / or we want to ski moderate runs without skinning very far.
If we’re seeking solitude, and a long walk in the woods leading to huge alpine bowls and high, rugged peaks, we drop down to White Pine below Snowbird, and access a variety of remote terrain, including the Lone Peak Wilderness.
