SUMMER HIKING AT ALTA

The Town of Alta has approximately 10 miles of hiking and ski area service roads. Both types of routes are available for non-motorized use. Please refer to the map for trailhead parking locations and trail descriptions. Enjoy some great exercise in this unique and scenic environment.

1. Collins Gulch to Germania Pass
Distance: 2.5 miles (one-way).
Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft.
Park in the Goldminer’s Daughter parking lot on the south side of State Road 210. The trailhead is located by Alta Ski Lift’s buildings. This trail is moderately steep to steep, passing through beautiful meadows in a hanging valley.

2. Cardiff Pass
Distance: 1 mile (one way).
Elevation Gain: 1,360 ft.
Trailhead parking is located on the north side of State Road 210, just east of the Alta Lodge. This hike climbs the ridge opposite the Alta Ski Area, offering magnificent views along the way.

2. Twin Lakes Pass to Brighton
Distances (Twin Lakes Pass/Brighton):1.75/4.25 miles (one way).
Elevation Gain: 2,713 ft.
Trailhead parking is located on the north side of State Road 210, just east of the Alta Lodge. From Twin lakes Pass it is possible to hike down to Brighton, or a loop including Catherine’s Pass, returning via Albion Basin.

3. Albion Meadows Trail
Distance: 2.5 miles (one-way).
Elevation Gain: 1,200 ft.
Walk instead of drive! This scenic trail starts at Goldminer’s parking lot, or on the south side of the road, east of the Snowpine Lodge. A moderate ascent brings you to the Albion Basin Campground and the Cecret Lake trailhead. Interpretive signs along the lower portion from Goldminer’s to Snowpine discuss the history, geology and wildlife of the area.

4. Catherine’s Pass
Distance: 1 mile (one-way).
Elevation Gain: 800 ft.
Trailhead parking is at Sunnyside parking area. From the pass, the trail drops into Big Cottonwood Canyon accessing Lakes Catherine, Mary and Martha, and the community of Brighton.

5. Cecret Lake Interpretive Trail
Distance: .75 mile (one-way).
Elevation Gain: 420 ft.
Moderately steep trail with interpretive signs along the route that discuss geology, hydrology and animal and plant life in Albion Basin. Trailhead parking is located at Albion Basin Campground. No mountain bikes please.

6. Germania Pass via East Greeley
Distance: 2.5 miles (one-way).
Elevation Gain: 1,300 ft.
Begin at the Cecret Lake Parking area. This old mining road switchbacks through lush meadows to a view above Cecret Lake, continuing into upper Albion Basin, finishing at Germania Pass.
