After an incredible winter season in Alta, we are ready for summer recreation. With warmer temperatures and clear skies, Alta offers summer activities for everyone. Whether you’re looking for leisurely hikes, epic climbing routes or mountain biking trails, Alta is your go to outdoor recreation spot.
Alta’s steep rocky faces, which provide great skiing in the winter also lend to great hiking in the summer. Plan a short walk around the area or a ten-mile trek, either way you won’t be disappointed with the unparalleled views. Little Cottonwood Canyon is a world-famous rock climbing destination, and Alta offers several distinct, developed climbing areas, all with stunning high alpine scenery. Alta’s crags offer sport and trad routes for many ability levels, with bouldering available nearby as well.
Biking is another great way to explore Alta in the summer. There is a growing network of mountain biking trails around the Albion Base at Alta. The trails offer mild to steep climbs and fun descents. Some of the best skiing slopes in the winter make for some of the best biking trails in the summer.
Last, but certainly not least, is camping at the US Forest Service Albion Basin Campground. This campground offers 26 individual campsites and 2 group campsites. This spectacular campground provides quick access to rock climbing, hiking, and biking trails, and it is extremely popular. While sites can be obtained on a first-come, first-served basis, for much of the season all sites are reserved in advance; visit recreation.gov for more information.
Alta may be known as a world-class ski destination but some of the best outdoor activities occur in the summer. Find more information on hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and camping around Alta at: http://www.discoveralta.com/experience/#summer
