Champagne toasts and watching the ball drop might some people’s tea but not at Alta.

We do things different.

From a distance, it looks like a Viking funeral.

A blazing line of fire-wielding skiers cutting down the mountain. They’re burying 2018 under a cloud of flames, kicking up snow and hoisting their torches. Like a flaming snake, they’re illuminating the night, torches lighting the trees and faces of fellow skiers. It’s a celebration unlike anything in Utah, tailormade for those that crave perfect snow and moonlit nights.

Blazing Traditions

Say hello to 2019 at the New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade.

Join the celebration at Alta for a special New Year’s Eve tradition. Alta season pass holders and skiers with a 12/31 area day lift ticket are invited to join the tradition complimentary.  For only $10, you can ride the Collins lift to the Angle Station and take part in our torchlight parade. We’ll start loading at approximately 5:15 p.m. and informally start the parade around 5:45–6:00 p.m. Last chair is slated for 6:15.

Tickets are available at the Wildcat and Albion ticket offices or at Skier Services between December 27–31 for those who doesn’t have season passes. Day of tickets are available prior to the parade at the Wildcat ticket office until 5:30 p.m.

Don’t forget to bring your own flashlight or headlamp to help light up the night and your ski down.

We want to make this friendly for the entire family however no beginner skiers are allowed as the parade route follows intermediate terrain in low-light conditions. Kids are welcome but they need to be accompanied by an adult.  And while Alta is the best mountain in Utah for shredding, the Torchlight Parade is about moving at a slow pace, so your speed control is very important.

After cruising down the mountain, join your friends and family for a one-of-a-kind firework and bonfire party.

If you’re visiting from outside Utah, don’t worry. We have the gear and lodging for you to join in the party too.

Deep Powder House is at the base of the mountain and they can take care of all of your rental needs. From boots to skis, poles and helmets, Deep Powder House has you covered at great rates. Check out their website or call them at 801-742-2400 for more information.
